A banging, banging wine rocks right out of the gate! Really great product from Carmen – nice balance and big flavors in this Carmenere; not as polished as the 2003 but might get there with a little more bottle time. The soft openness and gentle character offers exquisite representation and value. Soft appealing characteristics, mocha and herbal notes are nuances; not pronounced but subtlety exhibited in attractive balanced package. This Carmenere wine represents forcibly forward concentration with big flavors and tight tannins. My eyes have been popped open lately with the quality of Carmenere graciously making its way north.
The culinary versatility of this wine is great when they can hold their form from the first impression. Carmen will definitely have a good market share as this wine has a legacy of legitimacy. It has a dip in approachability right after opening that is amicable after one hour of aeration. The Carmen’s consistency has kept a solid footing and a great reputation, advancing the product placement considerably. Look for other varietals from this producer as they tend to, all be great wines, and excellent values. This vintage is quite impressive with its form and value given its proper respect (translated one hour of breathing). Like it, love it, buy it!
