Lean and mean, the 2005 Olga Raffault Chinon Les Galuches is firm without being huge and enjoyable for that trait. The fruit is restrained in a way the makes you think about it. Good enough to notice but you have to mentally dissect the flavors – why? Just enjoy the wine; it is unique and WONDERFUL. The quality of French wines that I have tasted lately has certainly been on the rise; bigger but cleaner flavors, distinguished traits of terroir and the example this wine sets brings home the concept and hammers down the reality that French wines are getting better. Berry and floral aromas vie for attention in this well made package from the Chinon appellation. Unfortunately, I don’t believe you can buy this wine anymore, but if you have this in your cellar, drink it and enjoy!

I actually was able to buy this wine and have held it for a while. The whole 2005 vintage thing and all made me reluctant to open it yet. But in the interest of making sure my wine was OK and developing nicely I thought maybe I should grill up some lamb and check out my condition. Cause it’s always good to check out what the condition your condition is in. Wine is Cab Franc well made and aging well.
Lamb and Olga Raffault Cabernet Franc! A match made in heaven. Crack that baby open and let us know how much you enjoyed it. Cheers.
