I’m always looking for inspiration to impress the heck out of my taste buds and if you are willing to imbibe on my next food and wine pairing conundrum, you will be in for a treat. This week, my inspiration came from a recipe provided by food network star Giada De Laurentiis: Poached pears amid a honey, ginger and cinnamon syrup.
This is one of those pairings that will certainly impress your guests at your next dinner party. Poach some pears and serve them up with Chenin Blanc, sweet Semillon, demi-sec (sweet) Champagne, or a Moscato d’Asti. These are perfect wines to accompany fruit-based desserts and they work because they have lively personalities that compliment the textures and flavors of the poached pears.
If you have other deserts in mind, just remember to match sweet foods with sweet wines. The sweeter the food, the sweeter the wine should be. Other sweet wines include Sauternes, Tokay, Riesling, Port, or a Pedro Ximinez Sherry.

I love this pairing, can’t wait to try it. I would imagine a late harvest Pinot Gris would go well too!
Indeed, your suggestion is great! Cheers, Pamela
This sounds like a winner of a pairing! I have a dinner event with a few friends. I might be bold enough to try it!
Kudos to a well paired pairing!
