Another great red table wine from Portugal this wine is a blend of Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga National. Unlike most Portuguese wines this is not a field blend and all three varietals were vinified separately. This technique might account for the broad depth of aromas and flavors this wine offers up in a complex package of fresh cigar leaf tobacco, chocolate, black pepper and anise. The texture is pleasant and the wine very smooth for only having spent six months in wood. A medium length finish that seems longer than it is due to the overall smoothness. This is a big wine that will pair well with a lot of different foods including burgers, pizza and braised meats. Balanced enough to be a standalone sipper doing double duty as a cocktail this wine will work well as a wine by the glass choice for most restaurants.

It is good to see more still Portugal wines on the shelves. This sounds like a good one.
