2008 Canyon Wind Colorado Petit Verdot

2008 Canyon Wind Colorado Petit Verdot

I love it when a wine makes every effort to impress breaking all rules along the way to show it deserves to shine alongside the big boys. Who would have thought that a grape like Petite Verdot would do so well in a place like Colorado? This undiscovered gem deserves a little attention! On the surface, you might simply pass this wine up but get rid of first impressions, open your mind and try this wine. Bordeaux inspired, it is a pure expression that showcases what Petit Virdot can produce from the Colorado Rockies. It is dark and mysterious with violet floral notes that mingle with dark fruits, reminiscent of a black berry pie. It’s pretty tannic from the start but if you let it breath for a couple of hours, the wine softens and some good acidity shines through. Great culinary applications include braised ox tails and polenta or grilled lamb. 210 cases produced. Drink now or cellar through 2014.

Rating: Very Good (89) | $26 | 13.4% ABV
