Encircled between the Atlantic ocean and the Gironde, the vineyard of Cos d’Estournel benefits from a micro-climate which regulates the region from getting too hot. In ’08 the climatic conditions varied in the region but when everything was said and done, it turned out to be another great vintage for Château Cos-d’Estournel.
The hill of ‘Cos’ (meaning ‘The Hill of Pebbles’) consists of exceptionally deep layers of gravel which forces the old vines to dig deep into the arid soil, which gives Cos it’s unique flavor. Consisting primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) with a hint of Merlot (13%) and a dusting of Cabernet franc (2%), the vintage brought a fresh, lively rendition to the 2008 vintage with tasty plum, cassis and ripe cherry notes that finishes silky and polished. I’d hold it a few more years and cellar through 2020. 20,000 case production.

This is one of my old time favorites. I wish I could afford to cellar a case of it!
Having a case of this stuff would definitely rock…!
Having cellared a few of my own, I can attest to the long ageing potential of this producer. The 2008 vintage was a great year, so suspect it will do well over the next decade.
Agreed!
Some say Bordeaux is over rated. Try this once and you’ll eat your words.
Words to live by. Cheers Janice!
