Wine Review: 2011 Cimarone Estate 3CV Happy Canyon Santa Barbara Sauvignon Blanc

Happy Canon AVA is relatively new on the scene. Having achieved its AVA status in 2009, the small region is home to six vineyards planted primarily to Bordeaux varieties in Santa Barbara. Apparently, Happy Canyon picked up its name during prohibition when folks would “take a trip up Happy Canyon” to purchase simple alcohol and the name stuck.

The region’s warm microclimate and mineral-laden soils produce low grape yields and highly concentrated fruit which is evident from tasting the 2011 Sauvignon blanc. The stony, apple aromas lead to an explosion of citrus, peach and mineral flavors wrapped in a zesty lemon blast. If you enjoy a bright, fresh style wine, this is for you. Give it about fifteen minutes to breathe before consuming and pair it with your favorite seafood dish.

Rating: Very Good (88) | $16 | 14.6% ABV
