Wine Review: 2009 Cimarone Estate “Cilla’s” 3CV Santa Ynez Red Blend

This great wine is a blend that to my knowledge is a South Central Coast California original. Primarily consisting of Syrah with a hint of Cabernet Franc and a splash of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it solidifies the theory that just because certain varieties have not been blended together in the past does not mean it can’t be done. I remember drinking lab samples with Jack Cakebread in 1995 of a Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel blend that was delicious and yet he never bottled that blend thinking no one would buy it. I’m glad Cimarone did not go that route as this wine is delicious too. Big, bold, well structured, easy drinking and textured silky tannins balance the package all the way through the luxurious plush finish making this a must buy now wine. Lamb chops rubbed with crushed cardamom, cumin, ground anise, citrus salt and fresh thyme grilled and brushed with a lemon and fresh oregano vinaigrette paired wonderfully with this wine. Digging it, doing it, drinking it, Oh yeah!

Rating: Excellent (90) | $18 | 14.5% ABV
