Wine Review: 2009 Gundlach-Bundschu Sonoma County California Mountain Cuvee

This is a new blended effort from the eponymous Sonoma winery with the hardest name in the business to pronounce; well the first couple of times anyway. It sort of rolls off the tongue after the first few times you say it correctly. This is not a wine to lie down and age for any long period of time, but the wine is so fun to drink, it will disappear soon enough. It is very approachable moments after it is poured—juicy, lush and fruity. The blend: 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, 6% Zinfandel, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% Syrah, 1% Malbec—a blend that takes like it should; brambly dark fruit, a hint of chocolate and tobacco round out the flavor profile. A fun wine from a serious winery that will pair with almost anything grilled, smoked or just in a glass by itself.

Rating: Very Good (88) | $24 | 13.9% ABV
