It was such a shame to have consumed this wine only three years after it went into the barrel. You can’t taste the vines from the trees, so often this is the unpleasant plight of wine reviewers. Oh there is plenty of fruit here and somewhere around 2014 -2015 this wine will be approaching its prime drinking window. Save a bottle/case until 2020 and your patience will be rewarded. Upon pulling the cork, you get beautiful fruit aromas of classic dark red berries, roasted fresh fennel and spice emanating from the glass. The flavors need a lot more time to develop so decant or aerate. The finish is long and shows good balance for the aggressive youthful tannins that will definitely fade and smooth over the next couple of years. If there was ever a wine that screams for a big slab of grilled beef this is it.
