2012 Logan Weemala Australia Riesling

This wine always astounds me in that for the price it continues to over deliver. Peter Logan’s arrival in the Australian region of Mudgee, New South Wales was like a breath of fresh air and he certainly has livened things up. This riesling is part of the Weemala vineyard range. Weemala is an aboriginal word for ‘good view’ according to their web site and while this particular wine does not come from that vineyard, it is still fitting because it comes from high up (over 1000 metres/3,200 ft up) on Mount Canobolas in the neighbouring wine region, Orange (NSW). Australian riesling lovers are already in the know about this gem of a region.

As 2012 was a later ripening vintage, there is plenty of lime juice, ripe apple and talc and floral perfume to enjoy. It is all medium bodied elegance with expressive fruit and a long line of acid to keep things fresh. The flavour lingers until the next sip and you’ll want to take your time to enjoy it. But don’t take your time buying some and my recommendation is to buy more than one!

Rating: Excellent (92) | $17 | 11.5% ABV
