Napa Valley Wine Academy Offers Italian Wine Certification
March 16, 2015 (Napa, CA). The Napa Valley Wine Academy is pleased to announce its new headquarters in Napa, California.
Ideally located in downtown Napa just off Highway 29, the new space at 2501 Oak Street offers state-of-the-art presentation equipment, professional wine coolers, and glassware by sponsor, Riedel, to further enhance experiences at the new location.
The building features two classrooms: a larger space seating up to forty students or private event guests; and a more intimate space for eighteen students or guests.
Newly offered at this location is the Italian Wine Professional™ (IWP) from Italian Wine Central. As Italy continues to be the #1 source of imported wines in the U.S. market, professionals and consumers now have a certification program specifically designed to help them become more comfortable with the complex world of Italian wine.
Italian Wine Central is the creation of veteran wine educator Geralyn Brostrom. A former vice president of wine education for the importer Winebow, she deepened her knowledge of Italian wine while training thousands of salespeople around the U.S. She is an instructor in the wine business program at Sonoma State University and holds the Certified Wine Educator credential, as well as the Advanced Certificate from the WSET. Her dual U.S.-Italian citizenship gives her a valuable perspective on both markets. Her co-founder in this project, Jack Brostrom, who serves as editor-in-chief of the Italian Wine Central website, has a unique background that combines years of instructional design and course development, wine knowledge (WSET Advanced Certificate), writing and editing. Together they are the co-editors of the Greenwood Press book The Business of Wine.
Who Should Take the IWP Course?
Organized by wine style—the very same way we buy, sell, and drink Italian wine—the IWP is a comprehensive course ideally suited for those who:
- are working in a position where Italian wine sales are part of their job description, but who want to build up confidence in talking about them
- are studying for a more general wine credential but are having a hard time making sense of the Italian chapter
- want to become adept at asking for some of those hard-to-pronounce wines in the Italian section of the local wine store
- simply need validation of your Italian wine knowledge
With over 400 denominations and even more grape varieties, Italy often merits the top spot on wine professionals’ lists of countries that challenge them most. The Italian Wine Professional™ training and certification program is designed to help students of wine become comfortable with the complex world of Italian wine. Created specifically to provide the confidence needed to discuss, sell, and buy Italian wine, the IWP has quickly become the indispensable Italian wine course and credential. Incorporating innovative instructional techniques, the program includes an online course that students follow and study at their own pace, allowing them to delve into the areas they need most.
Course and Certification
The Napa Valley Wine Academy is offering the Italian Wine Professional course in an intensive format that begins with self-study of the online course and culminates in a four-day review and tasting session, followed by the exam. The material is comprehensive, and the intensive program is delivered at a fast pace, requiring a commitment to learning on the part of the student. Early registration and a few weeks of concentrated study of the online course material prior to attending the in-person review is strongly recommended. Successful candidates earn the IWP credential.
