An Honest Wine: Cecchi Sangiovese

2013 Cecchi Sangiovese di Toscana, Italy

When I used to sell wine retail, from time to time, customers would approach me excitedly with a statement like this: “I tried Sangiovese last night and loved it, do you have any wines made from that grape?”

I would respond with, “Of course I do, let me show you some of the fine Chianti we have here.” A predictable look of astonishment would come over their face as they replied, “I’m sorry, I said Sangiovese not Chianti“, responding to wit “Chianti is Sangiovese.”  Cecchi now makes that conversation a thing of the past with their Sangiovese Toscana.

This is an upfront honest wine whose firm structure and spicy nuances will captivate the consumer. Dark fruit and anise accent the juicy red berry flavors with a hint of chalky minerality on the finish.  This wine is a good stand-alone sipper and very versatile with food pairings.

Rating: Very Good (88) | $15 | 12.5 % ABV
