CherryBerry Blast: Artesa Pinot Noir

2013 Artesa Estate Pinot Noir Reserve, Carneros, Napa Valley, California

Artesa continues to release well made estate grown varietals that represent value and distinction, and this 2013 Carneros Pinot noir is no exception to that trend.

This 2013 Artesa Pinot Noir has plenty of cherryberry aromas mingled with the earthy aromas of dried porcini powder and a hint of anise. This Carneros Pinot noir is much fuller flavored than those from Anderson or Willamette Valley. There is richness in the tannic density of this wine. Exhibiting subtle layers of tasty berry fruit, licorice, and a mineral component; the juicy acidity keeps the core focused through the finish.

For anyone who likes a little heft to their Pinot, this one fits that style and will require some additional breathing time to reach its potential. I suggest starting slowly with an appetizer of grilled morel mushroom and summer sweet peas as the wine unwinds then move slowly towards the main course—perhaps a Palliard of grilled pork with Romesco sauce, a dish that would pair well with this wine.

Rating: Excellent (90) | $40 | 14.5 % ABV
