A Bordeaux Blend from Washington State: Mercer Cavalie

2012 Mercer Estates Reserve Cavalie Red Blend, Horse Heaven Hills, Columbia Valley, Washington

Bordeaux blends from Washington State are some of the most exciting wines coming out of the Northwest today. This one from Mercer is a good example of why those wines are getting the attention they deserve.

Merlot grown in this AVA tends to not be as soft as Merlot grown in other growing regions producing wines of structure and balance.

The 27% Cabernet Sauvignon helps to smooth out the 52% Merlot and the 17% Malbec adds depth of flavor and 4% Petit Verdot heightens the aromas that enhance this easy drinking blend.

Flavors of cassis and cherry with a touch of creaminess complete the tasting profile. Barrel aging for 26 months ensures a smooth desirable wine that will age well for at least a decade to come.

Rating: Excellent (91) | $42 | 14.7% ABV
