Wente Morning Fog: A Chardonnay for Everyone

Wine Review: 2015 Wente Vineyards Morning Fog Chardonnay, Livermore Valley, California

This Chardonnay hails from the Livermore Valley in the San Francisco Bay area, a region near and dear to my personal wine journey. Livermore Valley was one of the first wine regions I explored during my stint with the USAF back in the seventies. It is also home of the famous Wente Chardonnay clone used by many Chardonnay growers.

The Morning Fog from Wente is 98% Chardonnay with a 2% dose of Gewürztraminer. That two percent of gewürztraminer really lifts the body of this wine to make it shine; adding aromatics and a hint of spice to the pear and honeysuckle aromas, this is a very desirable aroma flavor profile.


There is a beam of discretion in the freshly juiced apple pear flavors that makes it a joy to drink and pair with food. If ever there was a Chardonnay for everyone, I’d say this is it. The 2015 Wente Morning Fog brings to the table plenty of ripe fruit flavors and a full-bodied elegance that never goes out of style. Make sure to get this one to your table soon!
