Why do we review tasting rooms?

Overview

Enobytes reviews dozens of tasting rooms each year. Each review entails detailed review notes and an overall score based on rigorous standards. Our system is based on five key categories which include services, facilities, staff and quality of products. Each category is rated on a scale of 1-5, and then calculated to give us an overall score. The following information outlines our procedures and strategies used to maintain the veracity of our tasting room reviews.

rating  description
A one star rating is characterized by a no-frills tasting room offering limited or no services (e.g. special events, tours, retail area or a variety of flight tastings). The staff may have limited wine knowledge or may lack hospitality skills. Overall, it's a tasting room you'll probably want to circumvent if you are looking for a place that offers these kinds of amenities.
A two star rating is characterized by having a minimal selection of services, a suitable facility and a satisfactory atmosphere. The staff may have limited wine knowledge or may have a lack of hospitality skills.
A three star rating is characterized by having a sufficient selection of services, suitable facilities and a pleasant atmosphere. They typically have a sociable and knowledgeable staff and provide good customer service.
A four star rating is characterized by having a copious selection of services, excellent facilities and a wonderful atmosphere. They typically have a gracious staff that is knowledgeable (providing excellent customer service), and they know how to market great products.
A five star rating is characterized by abundant and superlative services, impeccable facilities and an exquisite ambiance. They also have an extraordinary staff that is extremely knowledgeable (providing exceptional customer service), and they know how to market top-notch products.

Why Do We Review Tasting Rooms?

Enobytes is the first online publication to review winery tasting rooms©. We have found that tasting rooms vary greatly when it comes to amenities and style of service. For this reason, we found it necessary to review tasting rooms as an extension of the winery - to review not only their wines but the quality of the services they provide.
